A few years ago it was easy to sweep the looming challenges facing us under the rug. Not so in 2009 the year this endeavor was conceived. There’s no denying we’re living through a period not only of rapid instability and change, but also of incredible human evolution.

Often referred to as “The Shift” (yes, a movie of the same name is apparently in the making), the period we’re living through is considered a stage of human evolution defined by a massive leap forward in human consciousness. This growth in consciousness will be fueled by more and more individuals and communities experiencing spiritual awakening worldwide.

Accidental Seeker:: Rising Sun over EarthIf that sounds pretty “woo-woo” to you, I understand. After all, in the last five hundred years or so humankind has come through the age of reason, the Industrial age, and the Information age. We’re pretty well conditioned to want things scientifically proven to us by now.

There’s no scientifically explaining why millions are yearning for something more and seeking the intangible truth of our existence whether through  traditional institutions like science and religion, or via new age spiritual teachings. The path matters not. What matters is that two pivotal things are happening simultaneously for the first time in human history:

  • We’re all asking big questions
Questions like: Who am I? Why am I here? What is God? What’s my true essence? What’s the meaning of life? What is being human all about? What are we supposed to be doing on Earth? What can we do to create a living heaven instead of a living hell? Where do we go next?  And for the most part, we’re not getting satisfactory answers from the sources we’ve had so far.
  • We’re globally connected
Thanks to advances in the information age, the capacity for global communication is unprecedented. Think about it: The telephone, radio, television, cell phone and Internet all developed within a single century. Many of those inventions matured in a single generation.  It takes something like a minute for news to make it around the world. For tens or hundreds of thousands of years, it was possible to live as a human with zero knowledge of what was happening in the world outside the physical territory you directly experienced for yourself. (Now, some people aspire to that — and still it can be difficult to achieve!

What are the implications? There are several, and I’ll explore many of them in this blog. But a few of the biggees are:

  • We now have the knowledge and means to harness the power of group intention. (This is a field all on its own often referred to as Noetic Science. Head over here to learn more.
  • We have unprecedented power and opportunity to harness it for good, or for evil.
  • Our survival as a species depends on what we decide to do both individually and together.
  • There are more, and more conflicting, opinions and information available to those asking and seeking it than ever before (I hope to help you learn a process for figuring out what to pay attention to and what not to).

And here’s the kicker. It’s easier than ever to get lost, throw up one’s hands in desperation, and wish for a way out. Or simply bide your time until it’s over. That’s where I come in.

My purpose is to serve as a “trail guide” for those just discovering and exploring their spiritual selves and for those navigating their way through the shift, and to provide direction and insight to the many who unexpectedly experience a spiritual awakening before, during or after. As an unintentional seeker myself, I’m called to help other accidental seekers discover their true selves and inter-connectedness in the context of everyday, modern life.

I’ll close with these thoughts to ponder from two inter-connected resources. The first is an excert from Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, followed by a comment from Lynne McTaggart’s blog The Intention Experiment (coincidentally [?] referenced in Dan’s book):

“Maybe there is a universal truth embedded in everyone’s soul. Maybe we all have the same story hiding inside, like a shared constant in our DNA. Maybe this collective truth is responsible for the similarity of all our (various religious and mystical) stories. . . . Of all the people who have ever lived, in all the eras in history . . . we are in that narrow window of time during which we will bear witness to our ultimate renaissance. After millennia of darkness, we will see our sciences, our minds, and even our religions unveil the truth.”

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, p. 409

In a hundred years or so I believe that the historians of that time will look back on the beginning of the 21st century as “the time of the great change.” The new renaissance had begun. The present trickle of awareness will become a torrent that will sweep away the house of cards that is our present ”nuts and bolts” image of reality. It`s time that we sleepers awake. What rare and wonderful days we live and breathe in. What dreams may come….indeed.

The time is upon us, the place is here. If not you, who? If not now, when?
