What is Coaching and How is It Different from Therapy?

One of the most common misunderstandings about coaching is that it is therapy in disguise, or worse yet, therapy from an unlicensed practitioner. However, personal coaching is a distinct service designed to focus on the achievement of specific outcomes that bring fulfillment, happiness and/or release from ingrained patterns in any and all areas of life. Often a coaching session can feel therapeutic, and although therapy and life coaching do share certain traits, their aims are different.

How We Work Together

Just as a sports coach might demonstrate proper technique to an athlete or review video of past performance to create conscious awareness for future improvement, I both instruct and encourage. I teach or recommend specific spiritual practices and, as an impartial observer, illuminate your blind spots so moving through challenge and achieving your goals becomes not only possible, but probable.

We start from wherever you are right now. We identify obstacles and pain points plus your desired results and future states. Drawing from a broad array of knowledge, resources and techniques, I then devise a roadmap for getting you back in alignment and heading where you want to go. We create specific, concrete actions steps, measure progress, and provide accountability until you are complete.

Nothing is forced or required. You don’t need to shift your beliefs (although you might choose to as you grow). After all, you’re hiring a coach to recommend the processes and practices most effective for you, and that of course means the ones you’ll actually embrace.
